Srinagar, Feb 14 (KNO): In a commendable breakthrough, Police in Srinagar on Friday have successfully apprehended an accused involved in an ATM card swapping fraud.
“On February 12, 2025, Police Post Bagyas received a written complaint from a lady namely Shaheena wife of Zahoor Ahmad Najar resident of Kupwara, stating therein that she along with her daughter, had visited Dental College, Shreen Bagh, for a dental checkup. While using an ATM located within the complex, an unknown individual inside the booth deceptively swapped her ATM card and subsequently withdrew ₹40,000 from her account,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Acting promptly, police said that a case under FIR number 14/2025 U/S 318(4), 305 BNS was registered in Police Station Safakadal and investigation was taken up.
“During the course of investigation, a team headed by Incharge Police Post Bagyas was constituted. After strenuous efforts and with the help of technical input and analysis of CCTV footage from the ATM, it led to the identification of the suspect as Burhan Al Rah son of Gh Qadir Rah resident of Bonpora, Nowgam. The accused person has been subsequently arrested, and multiple ATM cards were recovered from his possession,” police said.
Further investigation is going on to ascertain the involvement of the accused person in other similar fraudulent activities. More recoveries are expected, police said.
